Subject: Curriculum Development
  1. Purpose
    The purpose of this policy is to institute the process for establishing new academic programs and courses, and for modifying existing academic programs and courses.
  2. Developing and Modifying Academic Courses and Programs
    1. Curriculum changes include new courses, course modifications, course and program deletions, and new programs. Substantive curriculum modification may also require SACSCOC approval (see http://www.sacscoc.org).
    2. Proposals must be submitted through the academic deans, in consultation with faculty, to the RSCC Academic and Curriculum Council. Proposals are reviewed using Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) guidelines and policies which address areas such as academic content, need, cost, and staffing.
    3. Upon approval by the Academic and Curriculum Council, program proposals are recommended to Roane State’s president, who may approve or reject the proposal.
    4. Proposals for new programs will be submitted by the Vice President of Student Learning on behalf of the RSCC president to the Vice Chancellor of TBR for approval.
    5. If approval is required by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, then the TBR Chancellor will forward the material along with TBR’s recommendation.
